[ Kale chips, a healthy snack ]
After eating kale chips as our new favourite snacks during our road-trips in the USA, I wanted to recreate this healthy and tasty snack.
Yesterday was the first time for me to make kale chips, with it’s beginner mistakes and some lessons well learned, I can’t just share my recipe just yet. Since I still want to experiment a bit more & to fine tune it to how it tasted in the USA.
For the kale chips I made I used 1 tbsp of olive oil and 1 tbsp of chili flakes and some cumin and red pepper powder with a bunch of kale. Baked it in the oven on 200 °C for 10 minutes. It turned out a bit to bitter to my personal taste. The other version I tried was 1 tbsp of olive oil, 1 tbsp of sesame seeds & some black pepper with the kale. Baked it at 175°C for 15 minutes, which gave it a less bitter taste, but to less sesame flavour.
Lessons for next time, slow cooking in the oven, trying different oils (thinking of sesame oil for the sesame version) & try seasoning with salt before the kale goes into the oven. So keep posted in the next couple of weeks to find an update on the recipe. Let me know your secrets to the perfect kale chips.
